ART CLASS DESCRIPTION

Dive into the intriguing yet controversial world of Impressionism in this engaging five-week session! Join us as we explore the masterpieces of three iconic artists: Claude Monet, Mary Cassatt, and Auguste Renoir. Each artist will select one study piece from a curated collection of reference images and dedicate the entire session to working on that artwork. Impressionism, a revolutionary 19th-century art movement, is defined by its visible brush strokes, open compositions, and a compelling focus on the play of light and its fleeting qualities. Participants will gain insight into the ordinary subjects that inspired these artists, as well as their unique visual angles and the dynamic sense of movement present in their work. This 5-week session is designed for artists with previous experience in oil painting, as all paintings will be completed using oil. Throughout the session, artists will study the techniques employed by Monet, Cassatt, and Renoir, gaining familiarity with their brushwork, mark-making, and use of light. With guidance and support, each artist will reproduce their chosen piece, allowing for personal expression while honoring the Impressionist style.
